The course has 5 weekly two-hour sessions:
- "Finding the Melody" focuses on hearing improvised melodies -- the core of the Jazz experience.
- "I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues" focuses on hearing the sound of the Blues and the relationship between Jazz and Blues.
- "Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got That Swing" focuses on rhythm in Jazz and the role of the rhythm section. What
is "swing"?
- "Standards and Styles" focuses on how different Jazz musicians can do very different things with the same "standard" tune.
- "A World of Music" looks at the impact of various
"World Musics" on Jazz: African, Spanish, Cuban,

There are no tests or homework, and people
